What’s Voteteenth?
Saturday, September 19, 2020 is the first-ever Voteteenth, a day of action organized by FRRC to free the vote for returning citizens (people with past felony convictions) and a celebration. It evokes the spirit of Juneteenth: just as in 1865, when enslaved persons in Galveston, TX learned their freedom was granted two years prior, there are people across Florida today who are free to vote but don’t yet know it. We are looking to break down the barriers to voting by generating money to pay the fines and fees of returning citizens, which clears the way for them to register to vote — and to galvanize their communities to go vote with them.
